The BTP pathways:

Beyond the Present – For Professionals
Beyond the Present (BTP) is a training programme designed for teachers, school staff, and professionals working with young people. Its purpose is to help you look beyond surface-level behaviour and understand the emotional world that lies beneath.

Beyond the Present – student programme
A programme for young people themselves, helping them understand their own thoughts, feelings, and actions, and empowering them to build emotional resilience.

Beyond the Present – Parent programme
A programme for parents and carers, equipping them with tools and insights to better understand their children’s inner worlds and respond to challenging behaviours with empathy and confidence.

BTP sits alongside another Sport and Thought initiative, Pause Reflect Progress (PRP), a structured respite provision launched in 2017. PRP offers young people a psychologically safe space away from their school environment, helping them reflect, reset, and re-engage with learning and personal growth. PRP has become a vital alternative to exclusion, helping some of the most vulnerable students stay connected to education.

Today, the impact of Sport and Thought’s work, including BTP, has been recognised by the UK Home Office and featured in national media and academic publications. What began as one therapist’s vision in inner London has grown into a movement making psychological
